William Darling Armstrong

1891 ~ 1949

William Darling Armstrong was born in Dummer Township, Peterborough County, Ontario August 5, 1891, the son of Edward (Ned) Armstrong and Margaret Jane (nee Forbes).
As a young man he worked on the railroad in northern Ontario (Muskoka). He moved to St.Catharines and worked as a labourer on the construction of the fourth Welland Ship Canal. He later worked as a carpenter in the area. He was an active member of the Loyal Orange Order and he was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF).
Christmas was always a very special time at 47 Cosby Avenue with his family members being joined by aunts, uncles, cousins and friends for a festive meal.  He also enjoyed a game of cards, playing euchre, five hundred and misere. Kind and considerate he was always quick to lend a hand to anyone in need.  He died at St. Catharines on October 19, 1949 and is buried at Victoria Lawn Cemetery, St.Catharines.
